Academic Coaching — MedSirat Academy

MedSirat Academy

Individual coaching

Academic Coaching

Own your study direction. Build a realistic way forward.

For adults in higher education and other adult learning contexts who want to clarify their goals, organise their study commitments and take their own next steps.

For adult learners entering or returning to higher education, navigating an academic transition or looking for a more deliberate approach to independent study.

Where the work can focus

Choose the priorities that fit your situation. These are possible areas of work, not a fixed programme.

Study direction

Explore why a study path matters to you and what you need to understand before deciding whether to continue or change direction.

Independently owned goals

Separate your own intentions from external expectations and define a meaningful goal you can take responsibility for.

Realistic study planning

Map commitments, deadlines and constraints; choose manageable next actions and revise estimates after experience.

Academic transitions

Reflect on the expectations and routines involved in entering, returning to or moving within higher education.

Presentations and participation

Prepare the structure of a presentation, rehearse how to explain your thinking and choose how you want to participate.

Help-seeking and review

Identify the question you need answered, the appropriate academic support contact and a way to review your next step.

Make reflection tangible

Examples of goals and working documents you might develop together. They are starting points, not promised deliverables or guaranteed outcomes.

A study direction reflection

Record your reasons for a study choice, unanswered questions and a next conversation with the appropriate academic contact.

A realistic study commitment map

Bring deadlines and other commitments together, identify a conflict and propose an adjustment within your control.

A presentation-and-support note

Outline your own message, rehearse an opening and prepare a question to ask a tutor or academic support service.

A process that adapts to you

Revisit these stages as your situation changes; they are not a fixed sequence of sessions.

  1. Clarify the situation

Name the decision or challenge, what matters to you, and the constraints you need to respect.

  2. Agree the focus

Choose a client-owned goal, useful signs of progress and the engagement boundaries.

  3. Explore and act

Question assumptions, rehearse a conversation or choose a practical action to try in your context.

  4. Review and adapt

Discuss what happened, revise the working approach, and decide whether to continue, refocus or close.

Agree the engagement before starting

Your decisions, your follow-through

Coaching uses questions, reflection, rehearsal and review to support your own choices. You retain responsibility for decisions and actions. Goals and useful signs of progress are agreed together; outcomes are never guaranteed.

Choose the right kind of support

This is coaching for adult learners’ choices and study practices, not subject tutoring, assignment writing, assessment marking or admissions advice that promises acceptance. You produce and own your academic work and follow your institution’s requirements. The service is not clinical support and does not promise grades, admission or academic success.

Questions before you start

Will the coach teach my subject or write assignments?

No. You remain the author of your work. Subject explanations, assignment requirements and academic feedback belong with the appropriate teaching or academic support service.

Can I use coaching when returning to study as an adult?

Yes. You can explore your reasons for returning, realistic commitments, changed expectations and the support questions you want to raise.

Can we work on a presentation?

Yes. Coaching can support structure, rehearsal and how you want to communicate. You remain responsible for subject accuracy and your institution’s assessment requirements.

What if the main issue needs another kind of support?

Clarify the scope before starting and revisit it if needed. Subject, admissions, accessibility or clinical questions should be directed to an appropriate service; coaching does not replace that support.

Time & Priority ManagementChoose what matters. Plan what fits.Self-Paced Course

Study time and priority management through a proposed two hours of recorded theory, narrated worked examples and a knowledge quiz requiring additional time.

Connect objectives, priorities and available time. Build a realistic view of commitments, interruptions and dependencies, then choose a next action rather than treating every request as equally urgent.

Open daily appointment planner with a silver pen resting between its pages.

Who it is for

For professionals, team members, coordinators, managers and adult learners balancing competing commitments. No prior knowledge is required. Fictional or anonymised work situations are sufficient; personal diaries, colleague names and sensitive workplace information are not required.

Learning outcomes

Recognise priorities and estimates

Identify an objective, distinguish urgency from importance and recognise missing assumptions in a narrated time audit.

Explain realistic planning choices

Explain why a worked calendar includes dependencies and buffers, and recognise appropriate interruption responses.

Compare next actions and review decisions

Recognise a useful task breakdown, explain the limits of planning heuristics and identify a reasonable adaptation in a worked weekly review.

Eight connected topics

Definition: time use and objectives

Definition of time management: making deliberate choices about commitments within available time and constraints. Distinguish an objective, a task, a deadline and a measure of completion. Connect a request to a useful deliverable, and separate what you control from what requires another person’s decision.

Time audit and estimation

Compare intended and actual use of time using a fictional or anonymised activity log. Distinguish focused work, coordination, waiting and rework without labelling all non-task time as waste. Estimate effort separately from elapsed duration; include dependencies and use comparable past tasks to question an optimistic estimate.

Prioritisation: urgency versus importance

Prioritisation means deciding what deserves attention first against objectives and constraints. Urgency concerns timing; importance concerns consequences for an objective. Use an urgency–importance matrix as a discussion aid, not an automatic verdict. Consider obligations, dependencies and decision authority; choose to do, schedule, discuss delegation or renegotiate rather than simply delete difficult work.

Realistic planning and calendar buffers

Turn selected priorities into calendar commitments with a next action, estimated effort and completion check. Include existing meetings, coordination, transitions and a context-appropriate buffer instead of filling every available minute. Check dependencies and capacity before accepting a deadline; revise the plan when information changes. No fixed buffer percentage suits every situation.

Concentration and interruptions

Distinguish an essential interruption from a request that can wait. Agree contact expectations, notification choices and a way to handle urgent matters where the role allows. Capture the next step before switching tasks and choose a return point. Focus periods are adjustable planning choices, not a guaranteed productivity formula.

Procrastination and task breakdown

Describe delay in observable terms without diagnosing a person. Check whether a task is unclear, too large, blocked or dependent on a decision. Break it into concrete next actions with a visible completion condition; select a manageable starting step and ask for clarification or support where needed. The course does not promise to eliminate procrastination.

Laws of time management: practical heuristics

Use the source phrase “laws of time management” as a label for planning heuristics, not scientific or universal laws. The Pareto heuristic prompts a check for a few high-contribution tasks; it does not guarantee a fixed share of results. Parkinson’s law prompts a review of how an open-ended time allowance can encourage expansion of work; choose a realistic time box and a quality check, not an impossible deadline. Check estimates against comparable experience rather than assume a plan is accurate. Test each rule against the actual context.

Follow-up, adaptation and boundaries

Compare completed work with the intended deliverable, review unfinished commitments and adjust estimates using observations. Choose a next action, owner and review point. Make capacity conflicts visible and propose a trade-off, revised scope or new date within your authority. A weekly review is a planning routine, not a promise that all competing demands can be met.

Both formats cover the same eight theoretical topics. Live training adds guided application and feedback. Self-paced learning contains recorded theory, narrated worked examples and a knowledge quiz only.

Open handwritten notebook and a small journal on a wooden desk beside stacked books.

How you learn

Recorded theory and narrated worked examples cover the same eight topics as live training. Four proposed video blocks total 120 minutes. No facilitated practice, role-play, live discussion or individual facilitator feedback is included. Quiz time, notes and review are additional. Examples show completed reasoning; they do not assign guided participant activities.

Objectives and time audit — 30 video min

Topics 1–2: narrated objective definition, fictional time log and estimate comparison; explain effort, elapsed time and dependencies.

Priorities and planning — 30 video min

Topics 3–4: worked urgency–importance matrix and calendar; explain trade-offs, capacity, transitions and buffers.

Focus and next actions — 30 video min

Topics 5–6: narrated interruption responses and task breakdown; compare clear starting steps and completion conditions.

Heuristics and weekly review — 30 video min

Topics 7–8: explain practical planning rules and their limits, then follow a worked review with revised commitments and boundaries.

Knowledge quiz — additional time

Concept and fictional scenario questions cover all eight topics. Quiz time, notes and review are outside the proposed 120 video minutes.

Delivery and duration

Proposed asynchronous format: two hours of recorded theoretical video and narrated worked examples, plus a knowledge quiz requiring additional time. This is an editorial proposal, not the workbook’s five-hour live duration or a total completion-time promise. It is not a recording of the practical day.

Review and feedback

The quiz checks recognition of concepts and explanations of planning choices in fictional situations. It does not assess actual workplace behaviour or provide individual facilitator feedback. Planning heuristics are not scientific guarantees, and no productivity improvement is promised.

Questions before you start

Is the theory the same in both formats?

Yes. Both cover the same eight topics. The self-paced version offers recorded theory, narrated worked examples and a knowledge quiz, not facilitated practice.

Does two hours include the quiz?

No. The proposed 120 minutes cover video only. Quiz time, notes and review are additional.

Will the planning rules guarantee results?

No. They are context-dependent heuristics, not universal laws or promised results. The quiz checks understanding rather than real workplace performance.

MedSirat Academy · Formation

Open daily appointment planner with a silver pen resting between its pages.

Who it is for

Open handwritten notebook and a small journal on a wooden desk beside stacked books.

Who it is for

Open handwritten notebook and a small journal on a wooden desk beside stacked books.
