Individual coaching

Academic Coaching

Own your study direction. Build a realistic way forward.

For adults in higher education and other adult learning contexts who want to clarify their goals, organise their study commitments and take their own next steps.

For adult learners entering or returning to higher education, navigating an academic transition or looking for a more deliberate approach to independent study.

Where the work can focus

Choose the priorities that fit your situation. These are possible areas of work, not a fixed programme.

Study direction

Explore why a study path matters to you and what you need to understand before deciding whether to continue or change direction.

Independently owned goals

Separate your own intentions from external expectations and define a meaningful goal you can take responsibility for.

Realistic study planning

Map commitments, deadlines and constraints; choose manageable next actions and revise estimates after experience.

Academic transitions

Reflect on the expectations and routines involved in entering, returning to or moving within higher education.

Presentations and participation

Prepare the structure of a presentation, rehearse how to explain your thinking and choose how you want to participate.

Help-seeking and review

Identify the question you need answered, the appropriate academic support contact and a way to review your next step.

Make reflection tangible

Examples of goals and working documents you might develop together. They are starting points, not promised deliverables or guaranteed outcomes.

A study direction reflection

Record your reasons for a study choice, unanswered questions and a next conversation with the appropriate academic contact.

A realistic study commitment map

Bring deadlines and other commitments together, identify a conflict and propose an adjustment within your control.

A presentation-and-support note

Outline your own message, rehearse an opening and prepare a question to ask a tutor or academic support service.

A process that adapts to you

Revisit these stages as your situation changes; they are not a fixed sequence of sessions.

  1. Clarify the situation

Name the decision or challenge, what matters to you, and the constraints you need to respect.

  2. Agree the focus

Choose a client-owned goal, useful signs of progress and the engagement boundaries.

  3. Explore and act

Question assumptions, rehearse a conversation or choose a practical action to try in your context.

  4. Review and adapt

Discuss what happened, revise the working approach, and decide whether to continue, refocus or close.

Agree the engagement before starting

Your decisions, your follow-through

Coaching uses questions, reflection, rehearsal and review to support your own choices. You retain responsibility for decisions and actions. Goals and useful signs of progress are agreed together; outcomes are never guaranteed.

Choose the right kind of support

This is coaching for adult learners’ choices and study practices, not subject tutoring, assignment writing, assessment marking or admissions advice that promises acceptance. You produce and own your academic work and follow your institution’s requirements. The service is not clinical support and does not promise grades, admission or academic success.

Questions before you start

Will the coach teach my subject or write assignments?

No. You remain the author of your work. Subject explanations, assignment requirements and academic feedback belong with the appropriate teaching or academic support service.

Can I use coaching when returning to study as an adult?

Yes. You can explore your reasons for returning, realistic commitments, changed expectations and the support questions you want to raise.

Can we work on a presentation?

Yes. Coaching can support structure, rehearsal and how you want to communicate. You remain responsible for subject accuracy and your institution’s assessment requirements.

What if the main issue needs another kind of support?

Clarify the scope before starting and revisit it if needed. Subject, admissions, accessibility or clinical questions should be directed to an appropriate service; coaching does not replace that support.

Financial FeasibilityConnect the assumptions. Test the decision.Live Training

One day, five learning hours: connect a fictional venture’s financial assumptions through six guided activities, cash-timing checks and facilitated feedback.

Learn how a venture’s market and technical choices translate into financial needs, revenue assumptions, costs and cash timing. Distinguish profitability from liquidity and prepare a conditional feasibility judgement. This introductory course is not a real financial forecast, personalised financial advice or a promise of funding or business success.

Calculator, pen, paperclips and colourful page flags on printed financial-planning papers.

Who it is for

For aspiring entrepreneurs and project holders preparing an initial feasibility study; no finance background is assumed. One fictional small bicycle-repair workshop links a proposed local service to tools, spare parts and repair capacity. All case cards are invented for learning. No actual business accounts, confidential documents, numerical forecasts or personal funding decisions are required.

Learning outcomes

Map assumptions and needs

Draft a linked assumption register and startup-needs map for the fictional workshop, then revise after feedback.

Explain drivers and cash timing

Classify costs, explain contribution and break-even logic, and trace operating-cycle funding without confusing profit and cash.

Make a conditional recommendation

Compare qualitative stress cases, flag funding gaps and prepare a feasibility judgement with a next-validation plan.

Eight connected topics

Purpose, assumptions and links to other studies

Use financial feasibility to test the coherence of a proposed venture, not to prove that it must succeed. Link market evidence to possible customer demand, sales volumes and selling-price assumptions; link the technical study to capacity, tools, staffing and operating needs. In the fictional bicycle-repair workshop, record each assumption, its intended period, evidence needed and uncertainty. Demand is not established by a spreadsheet, and technical capacity is not a sales forecast.

Startup investment and funding needs

Map tools and equipment needed to start, initial spare-parts stock, launch outlays, operating-cycle funding needs and a separate cash buffer. Distinguish equipment intended for use over time from recurring operating expenses such as workshop rent; an equipment payment is a cash outflow but not automatically the same as an expense for that period. This is a planning distinction, not accounting-rule instruction. Label payment timing and avoid counting the same initial stock both separately and inside an operating funding estimate.

Revenue, volumes and selling-price assumptions

Describe revenue as the value of services sold, with an explicit service unit and period; for one defined service, its revenue structure is volume multiplied by selling price. Separate the number of possible customers, bookings, completed repairs and cash collected. Check that an assumed workload fits repair capacity and that the proposed selling price has evidence to test. Explain a completed qualitative driver map rather than inventing sales figures; neither a booking intention nor a capacity limit guarantees revenue.

Fixed costs, variable costs and contribution

A fixed cost stays unchanged with activity within a specified period and relevant range; a variable cost changes with activity. For the case, workshop rent is treated as fixed and spare parts consumed per repair as variable, with these assumptions stated. Mixed costs require care rather than arbitrary classification. Unit contribution is selling price less variable cost per unit; it first helps cover fixed costs and is not itself profit or a cash balance. Use consistent units, service scope and periods.

Break-even and profitability, not cash sufficiency

Break-even is the activity level where total revenue equals total costs in the stated model: neither profit nor loss. For one service with a positive constant unit contribution and unchanged fixed costs in the relevant range, break-even units equal fixed costs divided by unit contribution. Explain this logic without numerical forecasts. If contribution is zero or negative, that simple model offers no finite break-even volume. Compare required activity with capacity and evidence of demand. Reaching break-even does not recover every startup outlay or ensure cash is available when bills fall due.

Operating-cycle funding and cash-flow timing

Trace spare-parts purchases, stock holding, repair completion, customer collection and supplier payments. Operating-cycle funding needs concern resources tied up before operating receipts arrive; this is not the same measure as net working capital, which is current assets less current liabilities. No operating funding formula is required here. A cash plan places receipts and payments in their expected periods: opening cash plus receipts less payments gives closing cash. Profit records revenue and expenses, not simply bank movements; a sale before collection or an equipment payment can make profit and cash differ.

Funding plan, scenarios and stress checks

Match startup needs, operating funding needs and a separate buffer to possible owner contributions or borrowing, recording timing and whether a resource is merely proposed or confirmed. Funding received is not sales revenue; loan-principal repayment is a cash outflow, not an operating expense. Avoid double counting needs. Compare a base assumption set with slower demand, higher parts costs and later collection, separately and together. Trace effects on contribution, break-even logic and cash gaps; financing availability and repayment capacity must be tested, not presumed.

Coherence, conditional recommendation and testing

Check that demand assumptions, repair capacity, startup needs, cost categories, revenue periods, payment timing and funding status agree across the study. Keep missing inputs visible rather than filling them with invented forecasts. A defensible learning recommendation can be investigate further, revise or pause, with reasons and conditions. Specify the next evidence to seek: customer-demand tests, supplier information, timing checks or funding confirmation. Classroom reasoning is not a validated investment case; later real decisions need verified inputs and appropriate professional review.

Both formats cover exactly the same eight theoretical topics below. Live training adds six guided activities and facilitated feedback. The proposed self-paced product contains recorded theory, narrated completed examples and a knowledge quiz only. Formation_Niveau.xlsx, Sheet4, row 15 names Etude financiere and specifies one day, five hours, in person or online; its content cell is blank. The detailed syllabus and separate self-paced product are editorial proposals, not a source-provided programme.

How you learn

Short explanations introduce all eight topics. Six guided activities follow one fictional bicycle-repair workshop using qualitative case cards and blank planning structures, not numerical forecasts. Learners draft, compare and revise after facilitator feedback. Six blocks total 300 learning minutes including explanations, guided work and debriefs; breaks are additional. The output is a learning draft, not an approved business plan.

Assumptions and startup needs — 45 min

Topics 1–2: 15 minutes of explanation, 20 minutes for activity 1 and 10 minutes of feedback on links and possible double counting.

Revenue and cost drivers — 55 min

Topics 3–4: 20 minutes of explanation, 25 minutes for activity 2 and 10 minutes of feedback on units, capacity and contribution.

Break-even logic — 45 min

Topic 5: 15 minutes of explanation, 20 minutes for activity 3 and 10 minutes of feedback on assumptions and limits.

Operating-cycle timing — 45 min

Topic 6: 15 minutes of explanation, 20 minutes for activity 4 and 10 minutes of feedback on profit versus cash.

Cash stress and funding gaps — 55 min

Topic 7: 20 minutes of explanation, 25 minutes for activity 5 and 10 minutes of feedback on timing and unconfirmed resources.

Feasibility decision and validation — 55 min

Topic 8: 15 minutes of explanation, 25 minutes for activity 6 and 15 minutes of feedback and revision.

Six guided activities

1 · Link assumptions and startup needs

For the fictional workshop, link an untested demand assumption to a proposed repair service and its tool/capacity needs. Sort cards for tools, initial parts, launch outlays, operating funding and a separate buffer. Output: an assumption register and startup-needs map with evidence gaps and timing. Mark the possible overlap between initial stock and operating funding; revise after facilitator feedback.

2 · Identify revenue and cost drivers

Define a completed repair as the service unit and distinguish demand, bookings and capacity. Classify the case’s rent and parts-consumption assumptions as fixed and variable, and mark mixed-cost uncertainties. Output: a qualitative revenue/cost driver map explaining selling price, volume and unit contribution. Compare with peers and revise scope and units after feedback; no actual forecast is produced.

3 · Explain break-even logic

Use a completed symbolic single-service model to explain how positive unit contribution covers fixed costs. Discuss what changes when parts cost rises, selling price falls or required repairs exceed capacity; include zero or negative contribution. Output: a break-even reasoning note with model assumptions and a warning that cost coverage is not cash sufficiency. Revise after guided feedback.

4 · Trace the operating cycle

Arrange fictional cards for parts purchase, stock holding, repair, invoice, customer collection and supplier settlement. Compare payment on completion with later collection without assigning amounts. Output: a timing map and profit-versus-cash explanation, distinguishing operating funding needs from net working capital and from a cash buffer. Revise after facilitator feedback.

5 · Stress cash and identify funding gaps

Compare the base case with slower demand, higher parts costs and delayed collection. Map opening cash, expected receipts, payments and closing cash symbolically; distinguish a proposed owner contribution or loan from a confirmed resource. Output: a scenario/funding-gap matrix naming periods at risk, possible responses to investigate and evidence still needed. Check double counting and revise after feedback; funding is not promised.

6 · Make a conditional feasibility decision

Review the same workshop’s assumption register, needs map, drivers, break-even note and cash/funding checks. Output: a short investigate, revise or pause recommendation with reasons, uncertainties and a validation plan naming evidence, responsibility and a review trigger. Challenge inconsistent demand/capacity or payment assumptions, then revise after feedback. This is a learning judgement, not a financing approval.

Delivery and duration

The workbook specifies one day, five hours, in person or online. This live product uses in-person or live-online facilitation: 300 learning minutes with six guided activities and feedback; breaks are extra. Paper notes or equivalent shared documents support the fictional case. No real accounts or financial commitment is required.

Review and feedback

Feedback checks traceable assumptions, complete needs without double counting, consistent drivers, sound break-even reasoning, the distinction between profit and cash, and a conditional recommendation. Learners revise selected drafts. Review assesses conceptual coherence, not a real forecast, funding eligibility or future performance.
