Academic Coaching — MedSirat Academy

MedSirat Academy

Individual coaching

Academic Coaching

Own your study direction. Build a realistic way forward.

For adults in higher education and other adult learning contexts who want to clarify their goals, organise their study commitments and take their own next steps.

For adult learners entering or returning to higher education, navigating an academic transition or looking for a more deliberate approach to independent study.

Where the work can focus

Choose the priorities that fit your situation. These are possible areas of work, not a fixed programme.

Study direction

Explore why a study path matters to you and what you need to understand before deciding whether to continue or change direction.

Independently owned goals

Separate your own intentions from external expectations and define a meaningful goal you can take responsibility for.

Realistic study planning

Map commitments, deadlines and constraints; choose manageable next actions and revise estimates after experience.

Academic transitions

Reflect on the expectations and routines involved in entering, returning to or moving within higher education.

Presentations and participation

Prepare the structure of a presentation, rehearse how to explain your thinking and choose how you want to participate.

Help-seeking and review

Identify the question you need answered, the appropriate academic support contact and a way to review your next step.

Make reflection tangible

Examples of goals and working documents you might develop together. They are starting points, not promised deliverables or guaranteed outcomes.

A study direction reflection

Record your reasons for a study choice, unanswered questions and a next conversation with the appropriate academic contact.

A realistic study commitment map

Bring deadlines and other commitments together, identify a conflict and propose an adjustment within your control.

A presentation-and-support note

Outline your own message, rehearse an opening and prepare a question to ask a tutor or academic support service.

A process that adapts to you

Revisit these stages as your situation changes; they are not a fixed sequence of sessions.

  1. Clarify the situation

Name the decision or challenge, what matters to you, and the constraints you need to respect.

  2. Agree the focus

Choose a client-owned goal, useful signs of progress and the engagement boundaries.

  3. Explore and act

Question assumptions, rehearse a conversation or choose a practical action to try in your context.

  4. Review and adapt

Discuss what happened, revise the working approach, and decide whether to continue, refocus or close.

Agree the engagement before starting

Your decisions, your follow-through

Coaching uses questions, reflection, rehearsal and review to support your own choices. You retain responsibility for decisions and actions. Goals and useful signs of progress are agreed together; outcomes are never guaranteed.

Choose the right kind of support

This is coaching for adult learners’ choices and study practices, not subject tutoring, assignment writing, assessment marking or admissions advice that promises acceptance. You produce and own your academic work and follow your institution’s requirements. The service is not clinical support and does not promise grades, admission or academic success.

Questions before you start

Will the coach teach my subject or write assignments?

No. You remain the author of your work. Subject explanations, assignment requirements and academic feedback belong with the appropriate teaching or academic support service.

Can I use coaching when returning to study as an adult?

Yes. You can explore your reasons for returning, realistic commitments, changed expectations and the support questions you want to raise.

Can we work on a presentation?

Yes. Coaching can support structure, rehearsal and how you want to communicate. You remain responsible for subject accuracy and your institution’s assessment requirements.

What if the main issue needs another kind of support?

Clarify the scope before starting and revisit it if needed. Subject, admissions, accessibility or clinical questions should be directed to an appropriate service; coaching does not replace that support.

Communication Techniques & Processes — Live Training — MedSirat Academy

MedSirat Academy · Course

Communication Techniques & ProcessesFrom an idea to a shared understanding.Live Training

Understand and test the communication process in one day, combining theory, practical simulations and facilitated debriefs.

An idea is not yet a message, and sending a message does not guarantee understanding. Explore the communication process: how ideas are encoded, transmitted, received and interpreted, how noise interferes, and how feedback helps check what was understood.

Who it is for

For professionals, managers, entrepreneurs and students who need to explain instructions, share information or coordinate with others. The focus is the communication process, not an interpersonal coaching or public speaking course.

Learning outcomes

Map a communication situation

Identify the idea, sender or senders, message, channel, receiver or receivers, noise and feedback.

Choose and adapt the message

Try direct and relayed communication and adapt wording and channel to the context.

Close the feedback loop

Practise clarification and reformulation to compare intended meaning with what was understood.

Curriculum

From idea to message

Distinguish the intention in the sender’s mind from the words, signs or images used to express it. Examine encoding and decoding, context and interpretation.

The communication process

Map sender, message, channel, receiver and feedback. Identify where meaning can change between what is intended, expressed, received and understood.

Noise and barriers

Recognise physical, technical, semantic and contextual noise. Explore how distractions, ambiguous wording, assumptions and channel problems can disrupt understanding.

One or several senders and receivers

Compare one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-one and many-to-many situations. Examine coordination, competing messages and responsibilities when several people communicate.

Direct and indirect communication

Compare a message exchanged directly with a receiver and a message relayed through intermediaries or successive handovers. Consider channel choice, loss of context and distortion along the chain.

Feedback and checking understanding

Distinguish receiving a message from understanding it. Use clarification, reformulation and a feedback loop to check meaning and adjust the message.

Both versions cover the same theoretical subjects. Live training adds communication simulations and facilitated feedback; self-paced learning covers theory and examples with a quiz.

How you learn

Short explanations alternate with communication simulations and group debriefs. Each activity makes a part of the process visible: the initial idea, the transmitted message, the noise, the receiver’s interpretation or the feedback.

First part — Understand the process

Work from idea to message, map the communication chain and identify noise. Compare situations with one or several senders and receivers.

Second part — Test and adjust

Compare direct and indirect transmission, choose a channel and practise feedback. Rework a message after checking how it was understood.

Practical activities

Idea into message

Describe the same idea for two different receivers, then compare what each understood with the original intention.

A message through intermediaries

Relay a message through successive participants and compare the final version with the starting message to locate losses and distortions.

Find the noise

Analyse a short scenario containing distractions, ambiguous language or missing context; identify the barriers and propose corrections.

Several senders, several receivers

Simulate one-to-many, many-to-one and many-to-many exchanges, then map who communicates what and to whom.

Direct or indirect?

Compare two ways of transmitting the same instruction and discuss channel choice, context and handover risks.

Close the loop

Give an instruction, ask the receiver to reformulate it, clarify differences and send an improved version.

Delivery and duration

The live course lasts one day: five hours of learning, delivered in person or live online. Both formats include practical activities and discussion. Check the session dates, timetable and selected format in the product information before booking.

Review and feedback

Facilitated debriefs compare the intended message with what receivers understood. Feedback focuses on clarity, noise, channel choice and checking understanding; it is developmental, not a professional certification examination.

Another way to learn

Prefer to study the theory independently?

Communication Techniques & Processes — Self-Paced Course

Two hours of recorded theory plus a quiz on the communication process. No facilitated simulations or individual feedback.

Explore the self-paced course

Questions before you start

Is this the interpersonal communication course?

No. This course focuses on the communication process and message transmission. Interpersonal communication is a separate subject.

Are activities included online?

The live online version also includes facilitated activities and debriefs; check the selected session format before booking.

Is the theory the same in the self-paced version?

Yes. The self-paced course covers the same theoretical subjects, without the live simulations and facilitated feedback.

MedSirat Academy

MEDSIRAT Academy ·
